A Review of the Number 23 Sculpted Wood Dildo by Penetralia

Number 23 Sculpted Wood Dildo by Penetralia

REVIEWED BY KIRA'S KINK

*Please note the Penetralia line is now defunct, however, amazing wooden dildo sculptures by Nobessence are available and this review will link to them. Many of the shapes are similar.

I received Penetralia's #23 and #28 at the same time from SheVibe. I tested the #28 first, holding off on #23 until later. I quickly fell in love with the #28. I had originally liked the shape of the #23 better, so after the #28 was so wonderful I was extra excited to find out how well the #23 would work for me.

WHAT IT IS

The #23 is a double ended wooden dildo. It's curved so as to be used for G-spot stimulation. One end curves more than the other so depending on how much curve you need will decide which end works better for you.

ABOUT PENETRALIA

I went into the company on my #28 review. In case you missed it, I'll do a quick recap here. Penetralia is a small company that specializes in wooden dildos. This is an area once pretty much limited to NobEssence, so it's nice to see a new company taking on wood.

Penetralia is a unique and pretty sounding name for a company. Unbeknownst to me, Penetralia is an actual word. It means:

1. The innermost parts of a building, especially the sanctuary of a temple.

2. The most private or secret parts; recesses: the penetralia of the soul.

Pretty cool meaning for a dildo company.

All of the pieces are numbered, which is a code for the initials of the people who helped design them. I have trouble remembering numbers so I'm forever getting the #23 and #28 names mixed up in my head. If you're good with numbers it may be less of an issue for you.

All of the toys are hand crafted. Because of this there will be some differences in size and shape from piece to piece. The general design remains the same, you just may get a small difference.

PACKAGING

The packaging for the Penetralia line is made of wood, just like the dildos themselves. The front has “Penetralia” with the tree logo on it and no other markings. A velvety string wraps around the wood to close it. On the side, the number of the toy is written.

As you can see in the photos, the packaging is somewhat damaged. SheVibe explained that they were shipped a batch with damaged packaging but that they were ordering new ones to replace these. I got one in tact and this one damaged. The packaging is pretty fragile, so I can see why some of them got damaged in shipping. I managed to quickly break the packaging on the one that was fine. If you're super careful with it then you can use it for storage. I tend to pack all my stuff on top of each other because I'm short on space at this point, thus why mine quickly broke. Cool concept, but not ideal for storage.

MATERIAL

The #23 is made of wood. Wood is easy to care for. While the coating is safe to boil, it's not recommended that you do so as it could compromise the integrity of the wood. You should also not use anything abrasive to clean it.

There are two wood types used to make the #23 - either Morado and Padauk. Morado wood comes in varying colors. It can range from a red-orange to violet-brown. It features dark stripes. The grain is straight and it naturally has a high shine to it. It's often used for flooring, musical instruments, cabinets, and small wooden items. Padauk is a bright red wood that fades to brown in the sun. It's used often in flooring and small wooden objects.

Since I'm no wood expert, I'm going to take a guess that mine is the Morado wood given the color and grain. The wood you get will be dependent on what's available at the time.

Each Penetralia toy is coated with at least three coats of Smart CA, which is a different brand name for the stuff NobEssence uses. It is the only medical grade 6 coating that can be used on wood. Unlike the NobEssence pieces, the Penetralia ones seem to use less of this coating. You can feel the grain when you touch it and see it easily. It doesn't make much a difference in use. I can't feel the grain internally. The difference is purely aesthetic. It would be nice to see a bit more coating to the eye just to make it more glossy.

Wood in general is a firm material, so if you prefer a bit of plush you won't find it here. Unlike metal and glass, wood is lightweight. The firm material without the weight works out really well for me and my bad wrists. I'm also a fan of hard materials as it works better for my G-spot.

SIZE

I'll go ahead and give you the measurements of my piece, but for reference the dimensions will be changing. Going forward the length will be 7" and the diameter will be 1.35" at the widest point.

On mine the total length is 7.5". The end without ridges is 1 1/8" diameter from the side you see it in the photo.

The circumference is 4.75". If you flip it where it's wider the diameter is 1.5"

The middle portion is .75" diameter and 3" circumference.

The circumference is 4.25". When you flip it the diameter is 1.5".

The length is just about the size of my hand, extending from the tip of my middle finger to the end of my palm. The size is shorter than I expected, but then I didn't pay a lot of attention to the measurements before I got it.

At 1.5" in diameter, the width too much for some people. It's not overly large, but if you're used to very slim toys this would be a change. Since the sides aren't as wide as the front, this could ease some of size issues. I didn't have any issues with the diameter, but then I have quite a few really large toys. Diameters from 1.5"-1.75" seem to be my best bet, though I'll often use higher and lower ones. The size of this worked well for me in both length and width.

DESIGN

The #23 is curved for G-spot stimulation. Unlike many toys, the curve happens more toward one end than the other. It leans more to the end that doesn't have a ridge on it. This is actually pretty nice because it can be used whether you prefer a light or heavy curve. I personally prefer a lot of curve, so I tend to use the end without the ridge on it. The ridged end curves upward at the tip where the other end doesn't.

The overall appearance of #23 is very pretty. It looks sleek and almost like art work.

I've mentioned a few times the “ridged end” of the dildo. The first picture is of this end. You can see how the design points out some and then comes upward. I wasn't sure about this end given that I'm sensitive to textures, but while you can feel it in use it didn't give me problems. It's a bit of a weird sensation on this end because you'd think it would feel uncomfortable but it's more that you feel a slight size difference.

The other end is smooth with a flattened head. This side is more traditional in G-spot toys. The other end is flattened, but not in the same way that this end is. This side has a smaller flattened space and the other is wider.

NUMBER 23 IN USE

Everything about the smooth end of this should have worked perfectly for my G-spot. It's firm, lightweight, has a great curve, and features a flat head. Everything was lined up perfectly for this to be the best G-spot toy ever. Try as I might, however, I couldn't get the G-spot orgasm of my dreams from the #23. I can't even exactly explain why. I can hit my G-spot easily with it, but I can't get an actual G-spot orgasm from it. It put great pressure on my G-spot and felt amazing, but I just couldn't finish myself off with it. I wish I could explain why that is. Epiphora reported in her review that she had issues with it lodging in her pubic bone. I didn't have that issue with it, but I wanted to bring it up because, depending on your anatomy, it could be a problem. I was also using this lying down where she was using it sitting up, so that may also be part of it.

The ridged end of it wasn't really ideal for me due to the curve being less than the other side. The ridge was interesting and produced a different sensation, but it's not a sensation that I'd be running to during masturbation sessions. I'd much rather use the other more curved end.

Despite the fact that I can't get a G-spot orgasm from this, I still like it for the most part. It actually hits my G-spot, something most toys can't do. Just the pressure on my G-spot paired with a clit vibrator will send me into a strong orgasm. I just can't use this as a stand alone.

It's kinda funny because I expected this result from the #28. I though the #23 would work better for my G-spot and was unsure about the #28. Turned out to be the opposite of what I thought. Just goes to show that even when you've tested a lot of toys you can still guess wrong.

RECOMMENDATION

If you have issues with toys catching your pubic bone, I would say to pass just based on what Epiphora said. If you don't then this toy may work well for you. It has a really nice curve and head and should work well for many anatomies. Bear in mind that my G-spot is very particular. The fact that this hits it at all is pretty promising for those whose G-spot responds more easily.

IN CONCLUSION

Rating: 4/5  |  Intensity:  N/A  |  Noise:  N/A

Pros:

Good curve, Pretty design, Flat head, Ridge provides interesting sensations.

Cons:

Could use more coating, May catch on pubic bone.
